Grounding, also known as “earthing,” is a therapeutic technique designed to electrically reconnect you to the earth.
It’s is an interesting therapy because it affects our living matrix — the central connector between all of our cells. And when trying to reinstate your electrical current to the earth, grounding is a great way to do that because our bodies also have an electrical conductivity that exists within our matrix. Grounding activates this electricity that functions as an immune system that helps restore the body. It’s a great option for mental health treatment and recentering.
Grounding allows you to restore and refocus your energy. It’s a great meditative and therapeutic practice.
This post will detail the types and benefits of grounding.
Types of Grounding
One of the easiest ways to practice grounding is by walking barefoot in nature. Grass, sand, snow, water, mud and dirt all allow you to activate this electricity. I pair this earthing type with my morning stretches and salutations in the spring and summer. Being on the grass and practicing yoga is always incredibly calming. The natural ground will naturally reconnect your mind to your body and your body to the earth.
Lying on the Ground:
A great way to increase your skin-to-earth contact and a quite relaxing way at that. Pair this with a 15-30 minute meditation and you have a great reconnective practice ahead of you.
Submersing in Water:
One of my personal favorite ways to ground. I’m such a water bug so I prefer this over anything else. It can be as simple as swimming laps in a lane to treading water in a lake or pond to surfing with the waves. There’s no wrong way to ground when in water.
If being outdoors is not your thing or you can’t get outdoors, there are great alternatives such as grounding tools. This method of earthing involves grounding mats, socks, bands, and/or blankets. All of these things can be found online. A great site to look into and get authentic resources and tools from is Earthing.com.
But these tools are really neat because there are several ways you can use them and still get that grounding effect. Earthing shoes or barefoot shoes are a shoe designed to connect you to earth’s electromagnetic field. Grounding mats allow the body to get rid of EMF exposure. Earthing blankets or sheets allow you to get rid of negative charges throughout your home and body.
